How to save money on brand name fashion with thredUP

I’m a sucker for brand name fashion and I’ve loved clothes for as long as I can remember.  Growing up, my mom, the professional seamstress, sewed all my dresses.

I’ll never forget my first maxi.  Mom stitched the purple crushed velvet dress out of leftover material after fashioning the bridesmaid’s gowns.   It was my first crushed velvet and I was stunning in the third grade Sunday School class.

Mark Zimmerman said so.

(He was also in the third grade.)

(And, he was the cute dominant male of the Sunday School class.)

She bought my first-ever pair of high heels to go with them – one-inch closed toe, open heeled leather.

I couldn’t stop saying I loved her all the way home from the H&M Shoe Store.

We wore matching maxi patchwork quilt dresses to the mother/daughter banquet one year.

(I was eight.)

She crafted a gorgeous pink tweed suit for me to wear to a high school function.

And, she stitched every seam of my wedding dress.  We plotted the style and it turned out exactly as planned.

I got bit by the fashion bug early.

But women my age (44-60-ish) sometimes get to feeling under-confident in the clothing department.  I think as we transition through releasing children/welcoming grandchildren, we want to dress trendy but we don’t want to look like we’re

A. Stuck in the ’80’s, or

B. Still trying to pull off 29 (aka TOTAL DENIAL).

Many young women who have moms my age visit this space.  By the same token, many older women (my age) are looking for how to dress with modesty and still stay in the fashion loop.

And so today I’m excited to share the brand new fashion section of Rear Release Regroup!  We will feature a post like this 1-2 times per month – so if you’re into looking dapper, sign up here so you won’t miss a post!

One name brand I love is Anne Taylor and Anne Taylor loft.  I’ve recently discovered how to find this brand name fashion at a fraction of the cost!  Allow me to share with you the new-found clothing source I’m totally in love with – ThredUp!

ThredUp takes gently used clothes (some never even worn – with tags) and and sells them at a fraction of the cost.

In their words,

Our mission sounds simple: to inspire a new generation of shoppers to think secondhand first. But it means challenging shopping habits, shifting the perception of used to like-new, supporting quality over quantity, and educating the public about the impact fast fashion has on our environment, not to mention closet space. It’s a tough assignment, but all of us here at thredUP believe our best days are ahead of us.

With brand names like Kate Spade, J. Crew, and Michael Kors, you’re sure to find something you like!

And that’s not all!

You can make money from ThredUP too!  Simply go to ThredUP‘s website and order your very own, postage free package to send your own gently used brand name clothing.  This package is as large as a laundry basket, so you can fit a LOT of stuff in there!
